Dan is Founder and
co-owner of Rhythms and
Leven Trainings in Movement Therapy, co-founder of Kripalu
DansKinetics
and creator of Shake Your Soul
and Body-Centered Expressive Therapy Training.
He is a Gestalt Psychotherapist and graduate of the
Hartford Family Institute’s Body-Centered Gestalt
Psychotherapy
Training Program. As
a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist, he has spent 30 years
studying a range of movement disciplines, including modern dance,
African dance, yoga, qi gong, Pilates and Body-Mind Centering. |

Chantal and Chloe Leven

|
Chantal is co-owner of
Rhythms as well as a certified yoga and Shake Your Soul teacher.
Prior to her owning Rhythms, Chantal was the director of
training and development at Legacy Banks for 6 years. She also
owned another coaching and training business before working for
the bank. She is a certified Personal Professional,
Guerilla Marketing and Career coach, massage therapist and has
studied movement therapy and expressive arts.
Chloe is Rhythms'
Mascot- she takes her job as a greeter very seriously. She loves
hiking, swimming digging holes and chewing on bones (and
sometimes shoes). She is part of the Rhythms staff.

Adrian Bennett
 |
Adrian has been
drumming since the age of eight: from drumset to marching band
to the local town symphony. In 1992 he discovered West African
style and community-based hand drumming. Since then he has
learned many other drumming techniques, including conga and East
Indian tabla. Adrian has accompanied and played with many
nationally-known teachers and performers: Babatunde Olatunji,
Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain, G.S. Satchdev, Ray Spiegal, Bhagavan
Das, Russill Paul, David Hykes, Shiva Rae, and Rama Birch, to
name a few. Currently, he regularly assists musical and yoga
presenters at Kripalu Center, and plays and records with the six
person drumming ensemble, "KDZ: The Drummers at Kripalu"
www.kdzdrum.com, the Bhakti Yoga Kirtan group "Yati Priya",
as well as teaching and leading weekly hand drumming groups
throughout the Berkshire community. |

Aimee
Gelinas
Live Afro-Caribbean Drummer
 |
Aimee
Gelinas,
a locally based Berkshire drummer, percussionist, vocalist and
educator is also the co-founder of the all-women world music
ensemble, Gaia Roots (www.gaiaroots.com).
She has taught and studied Afro-Cuban and West African percussion
and singing for over 12 years, having studied in Havana and Mantanzas,
Cuba; Senegal and Gambia, West Africa, as well as with local master
drummer, Joe Platz. She was a vocalist and percussionist with
Abdul Baki Roots Reggae, has played with Holyoke’s Enchanted
Circle Theatre’s Roots, Rhythm and Rapture, an
Afro-Caribbean percussion and dance troupe, and currently sings lead,
writes, and is co-founder of the Berkshire-based rock group SIFER (www.sifer.net).
She also teaches drumming to children and adults in the Berkshires
at Canyon Ranch, Berkshire Pulse, Valley Head School and Residencies, and
plays lead percussion with Tracy Vernon’s Afro-Caribbean dance class
at Rhythms. |

Ani Grosser
 |
Ani has a BA in
history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Madison and
MSW from Boston University. She has over 30 years experience as
a Social Worker and Psychotherapist in hospitals and family
service agencies, and in private practice since 1989. Ani is a
graduate of the two year Advanced Training Program in Family
Therapy at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services in
New York City, and is a Certified Imago Therapist. A Registered
Yoga and Meditation Instructor, Ani has a strong interest in
holistic health and creates Stress Management Programs for
diverse groups: health care professionals, educators, women's
organizations, and parent groups. She is on the Board of
Directors of the Women's Interfaith Institute of the Berkshires. |

Carol
Link
 |
Carol received a B.F.A. in dance and movement studies from
Montclair State University in 1975. She continued her dance
education at the American Dance Festival at Duke University and
in New York City. Her early years were spent in professional
modern dance, while also studying the work of Alexander,
Feldenkrais, and Laban. Her combined love of dance and healing
arts led her to a degree in Physical Therapy from New York
University in 1984. During Carol’s 24-year career as a physical
therapist and lifelong dancer, she pursued postgraduate studies
in neurodevelopment movement concepts, sen-sory/motor/balance
integration, sports rehabilitation, dance and yoga.
Carol is a certified Shake Your Soul® instructor and teaches at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health and is a certified Weight
Trainer through I.W.A. She has taught physical education,
creative movement and yoga to the children at Sinai Academy of
the Berkshires, Knesset Israel’s preschool program and
throughout Berkshire County. Carol practices as a Pediatric
Physical Therapist and offers dance and yoga classes to children
with special needs at Central Berkshire Regional school
district. She is a movement instructor for community Access for
the arts (C.A.T.A.).
Carol’s unique fusion of inspirational and creative dance
techniques and therapeutic exercises contribute to her
integrative approach to movement and wellness. |

Dawn
Meltzer
 |
Dawn
has had a passion for movement since she began studying dance at
the age of 4. She
started teaching ballet and jazz while in college.
After dancing for 30 plus years, she developed a sincere
interest in the disciplines of yoga and qigong, which eventually
led to her teaching certifications in each.
She nurtures her students and encourages them to take an
active role in their health and well-being.
Dawn is the owner of New Dawn Healing Arts
in the historic district of Lenox, Massachusetts.
She is a spiritual healer, licensed acupuncturist and
medical qigong therapist, holding masters degrees in acupuncture
and medical qigong. |

Emily Fox
 |
With
a lifelong interest in movement, Emily has studied a variety of
dance forms, including ballet, modern, and African dance, as well as
Ballroom, Latin and Swing. She has taught social dance at Paradise
Dance Studio, Greenfield Community College and The Hartsbrook
School, and enjoys working with individuals and couples, in
addition to larger groups. Emily is a certified Shake Your Soul®
instructor and a faculty member in the Shake Your Soul® Teacher
Training. Emily brings her compassion, sense of humor, and love of
movement to her teaching, and particularly enjoys teaching those
who long to dance but think of themselves as having two left feet. |

Fran Steinert

Fran is the founder,
artistic director, principal choreographer of DanceCo Caliente
which offers extensive dance education, training, technique and
style for children and adults, including a Jazz Intensive in the
summer, entertainment/fundraisers events/parties, performances,
demonstrations, special events and innovative community outreach
and arts in education in- reach programs for area public and
private class. For 10 years Fran was also the co-founder and
co-artistic director of the Flowering Child Program. She was
also co-founder and co-artistic director of Berkshire Pulse for
2 years where she choreographed multiple productions for
children. |

Jane Ciepiela

|
Jane Ciepiela began her yoga
practice at the age of 24.
She was asked to attend a
class at a local gym and
fell in love. The teacher of
the class told her she would
become a teacher some day
and did. Jane is a certified
teacher and continues to
attend workshops and
seminars and plans
continuing education with
Sri Dharma Mittra in the
fall 2008.
Jane
teaches a lively, heart
centered Vinyasa style class
that is nurturing yet
grounding and strength
building. She encourages
focus on completion of
breath which supports each
physical movement. Her
teaching style has been
influenced by many and is
ever changing. Dharma Mittra,
Shiva Rae, Sean Corn, Barron
Baptiste, Kripalu yoga.
However a local teacher
Kathy Sprague is the reason
Jane is teaching today.
Jane is a proud mother of
two beautiful daughters.
Autumn (12) and Raina (7). Her
teachings often come
directly from them. As they
remind her every day who she
is and why she is here.
Autumn and Raina are her
spiritual practice and in
truth Jane's primary
teachers.

Jeanne
Bassis
 |
Jeanne holds a
M.A. in Special Education and founded PlayReflections® playshops for the kid
in everyone in 1987, after more than 15 years working with people
of all ages in traditional and alternative settings. She has taught dance and creative movement with children of
all ages and adults, and has worked extensively in early childhood
education. Jeanne has
been dancing her whole life, and her enthusiasm for sharing her
love of creative movement is infectious. |

Jennilee
Toner
 |
Jennilee has
recently relocated to the Berkshires from San Diego, California. She
teaches power yoga, slow flow yoga, iron flow yoga and an
ancient folk form of bellydancing. She is also a personal
trainer and a muscular therapist. Jennilee has recently received
her masters in Mythological Studies from Pacifica Graduate
Institute and is getting her second masters in Transpersonal
Psychology: Body/Mind Wellness.
Jennilee loves to teach! "After practicing Bikram and Baptiste
yoga for years, I decided to become an instructor. Teaching,
practicing and learning from my students is an amazing and
fulfilling way to live my life! I’m in love with I do! Yes!" |

Karen Allison
 |
Karen holds a M. Ed.
in Exercise Science, is a Registered Yoga Teacher (Yoga Alliance),
Certified Personal Trainer (American Council on Exercise,
National Academy of Sports Medicine), and Certified Group Exercise
Instructor (American Council on Exercise).
Her passion and interests include teaching and experiencing yoga, dance and
athletic play which inspire people to deeply feel and believe
in their potential and their being. Karen’s enthusiasm
spans healing improvisational dance like African or NIA-based styles to choreographed Latin or Funk. |

Kat Gurley

|
Kat Gurley holds a BFA in Modern
dance with an emphasis on performance and choreography from the
University of Colorado-Boulder and certification as a yoga
instructor from the Eldorado Mountain Yoga Ashram in Eldorado
Springs, Colorado. As an undergraduate she received a
Bates Dance Festival merit scholarship and an Innovative Artist
Lamont Scholarship. She has trained with Onye Ozuzu, David
Capps, Toby Hankin, Kathleen Hermesdorf, and a host of others,
with Jeanette Neil Dance in Boston in association with Boston
University, and at The Yoga Workshop, Prasad Yoga, and The
Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado. Kat has performed
widely in Colorado with the Skeleton Dance Project and with
other performance companies and venues. She has taught
both adults and children at Mosaic Movement Arts, the University
of Colorado-Boulder, Naropa University, and CU-Moving Co., all
in Boulder, and at Flashdance Studios in Broomfield, Colorado.
Kat brings a wealth of experience to Rhythms in Modern,
Afro-Modern, Afro-Cuban, West African, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop,
Salsa, Improvisation, Yoga and Pilates techniques. |

Marafanyi

|
Yael Shacham and Lara Gonzalez, Marafanyi's founders and
artistic directors, have been studying, teaching and performing
West African drum, dance and song for over a decade. They
travel frequently to Guinea to study and collaborate with master
artists there. Marafanyi Percussion has a holistic
approach to drum, dance and song that is fun, encouraging and
accessible, with the focus on joyful exploration. Known
for their creative diversity, they hold a commitment to the
therapeutic, educational and transformative power of drum, dance
and song for all ages, populations, and the community at large.

Olivia Wilber
 |
Oliva Wilber is young and talented, and possesses great
enthusiasm and a breadth of dance experience, including Hip Hop,
Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Swing and African Dance. She has
been a devoted student of dance for seven years, studying with
the Albany Berkshire Ballet and Berkshire Pulse. Olivia
has taught at Muddy Brook Elementary School and Community Action
for the Arts (CATA) for four years.

Paul Marshall & Jackie Wong

Paul
Marshall and Jackie Wong have been dancing tango for eight years
and teaching for three years. They travel often to Buenos
Aires to deepen their knowledge of the various styles and
nuances of tango. Besides the Berkshires, they teach
regularly in Albany, Hartford, Northampton, Bard College and
Williams College. They are known for their emphasis on
connection and dance technique. Paul and Jackie originally
began their love affair with tango because they wanted, as a
couple, to find something to do together. They quickly
became "tango junkies" and feel lucky to have tango in their
lives and the community that comes with it. Visit their

Ray H. Crist
 |
Ray
H. Crist is a certified Hatha yoga teacher through the Yoga
Alliance, and has over a thousand hours in professional
training. Currently he is teaching at Kripalu Center for Yoga
and Health, specializing in vigorous Vinyasa flow. Ray is an
apprentice with the
renowned shaman Dr. Alberto Villodo, and a student in the Healing the Light Body School with The Four Winds Society. He
has a degree in Chinese Medicine herbology and iin teacher
training of Thai Yoga
(Bo Ran northern style). He is certified in Reiki, and has an
intermediate degree from the Aura Soma School of Acu Light
technique. His first practice was in martial arts: Tai Chi
(chuan) and Kung-Fu (wu shu) |

Tracy
Vernon
 |
Tracy received her
initial dance training at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
in New York City. She has danced professionally for numerous
dance companies and is currently the co-founder and director for
Roots, Rhythm and Rapture, an ensemble of drummers and dancers
that perform traditional music and dance from the Caribbean for
audiences throughout New England. Tracy has been a dance
educator in public education, as well as in the private sector for
21 years. She celebrates her sixth year as director and
educator for the dance program at Amherst Regional High School. |
